Accusations spiral out of control

-

Have the Fifth and Sixth Amendments been suspended? Our country is in chaos. A refresher on those amendments: A person accused of a crime is presumed innocent unless the person is convicted by a jury in a court of law. A person must receive a speedy trial, have legal representation, and have witnesses for his or her defense.

We now have allegations without proof. The news media, which we once could trust to give us truth, have reporting based on rumors, lies, and half-truths. Many allegations about misconduct have emerged. It has become a she-said, he-said daily television show.

A rush to judgment is an everyday occurrence. Lives have been impacted daily. People have allegations made against them but no proof.

One man (Ohio State assistant coach Greg Schiano) was offered the head football coaching position at the University of Tennessee. He had worked at another school where another coach had been convicted of sexual misconduct. Schiano was cleared by an investigation that concluded he had no part in the problem. A mob demonstrated against his taking of the job. News media covered the demonstrations and the university stopped the hiring process.

One might question who makes the decisions — the school administration or the liberal mob?

No man or woman should be permitted to physically or sexually assault a child, woman or man.

When are we going to restore law and order in our country? Columbus
