Spartans roll over Irish

EAST LANSING, Mich. — Joshua Langford scored 12 of his 17 points in the first half to help No. 3 Michigan State take a huge lead it was able to restore in the second half against No. 5 Notre Dame in an 81-63 victory Thursday night.

The Spartans (6-1) have won five straight, including a rout against then-No. 9 North Carolina, since losing to top-ranked Duke.

The Fighting Irish (6-1) trailed by 20 at halftime and cut their deficit to seven with 13:09 left, but couldn’t get closer against a team with a lot of options on offense that is defending and rebounding as if it is in mid-season form under Hall of Fame coach Tom Izzo.

Jevon Carter scored 25 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead West Virginia in Morgantown, West Virginia. West Virginia (7-1) started the game sluggish, allowing NJIT to lead throughout the first 10 minutes of the game. The Mountainee­rs then outscored NJIT (4-3) 31-14 to close out the first half and opened the second half with a 15-2 run to cruise to victory.

Myles Powell scored seven of his 19 points in a span of 45 seconds to lift Seton Hall (6-1) to an victory over Texas Tech (6-1) at Madison Square Garden. Powell was one of four Desi Rodriguez finished with 24 points to lead the Pirates. Keenan Evans led the Red Raiders with 21 points. Rick Pitino sued the University of Louisville Athletic Associatio­n for $38.7 million, saying it breached his contract by placing him on unpaid administra­tive leave without notice and firing him last month with no legally justified “cause.” Pitino’s lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court seeks liquidated contract damages of $4.307 million through 2026.

Women

Myisha Hines-Allen had 25 points and 12 rebounds to help Louisville (7-0) beat Indiana (4-3) in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge in Bloomingto­n, Indiana. Jaelynn Penn led Indiana with 17 points.

Kristy Wallace scored 15 of her 20 points in the first half and Baylor (6-1) held Kentucky (6-1) without a field goal in the third quarter on the way to a victory in the Big 12/SEC Challenge in Waco, Texas. Maci Morris had a game-high 22 points for Kentucky.
