GOP worked for years for this moment

-

We're witnessing history. Republican tax reform is on the cusp of becoming law.

This historic achievement has taken years of promoting discredited economic policies, and a lot of gerrymandering, as well as a new president willing to lie shamelessly and divide people along lines of race, sex, religion and winner/ loser status. All the hateful and divisive rhetoric and relentless attacks on political enemies is finally paying off for the Republican Party.

There were no Democratic amendments, no expert testimony, no public input. Our nation is more divided than at any time in our lives, elections are no longer competitive and are being sponsored by billionaires, but for principled and serious legislators, as Sen. Rob Portman calls himself, it has to feel good to write a generous tax cut into law for himself and his friends and political patrons.

The assistance Republicans receive from the Kremlin, including weaponized propaganda and active subversion of U.S. democracy, has been invaluable in this historic accomplishment.

There will be huge deficits, likely cuts to Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security, and another trillion or so added to the national debt to be paid for by someone sometime in the future. But Republicans are in charge, and nobody cares about debt and deficits anymore.

Congratulations to Portman and Ohio Republicans on realizing their longstanding dream of tax reform. Columbus
