League overturns Iloka’s 1-game suspension

- From wire reports

CINCINNATI — Bengals safety George Iloka had his one-game suspension overturned on appeal Wednesday, leaving him with a $36,464.50 fine for his hit to Antonio Brown's head on Monday night.

Iloka and Steelers receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster each got a one-game suspension from the NFL in the aftermath of Pittsburgh's 23-20 win at Paul Brown Stadium. Iloka hit Brown in the head while trying to break up his fourth-quarter touchdown catch.

Smith-Schuster was suspended for leveling linebacker Vontaze Burfict with a blindside hit and then taunting him by standing over him. Smith-Schuster has apologized for the taunting.

Coach Marvin Lewis said that he and Steelers coach Mike Tomlin, who are on the league's competition committee, have addressed it with their teams.

"We don't want any of that stuff," Lewis said Wednesday. "I don't think either side wants to have any of that, the unnecessary roughing that occurred early in the game. We don't want to have a player hit with an illegal hit and then stood over."

Steelers' Shazier moved to Pittsburgh

Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier was transferred from a Cincinnati hospital to Pittsburgh to continue treatment for a spinal injury suffered during Monday night's game against the Bengals.

The Steelers said Shazier was transported from Cincinnati to Pittsburgh on Wednesday afternoon and will continue to undergo tests before there is an update on his status.

Shazier left Paul Brown Stadium on a stretcher less than four minutes into the game following a tackle that left the 25-year-old writhing on the turf, his legs motionless. He underwent extensive testing at University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

Video reviews may check for targeting

The NFL will look into adding targeting as a specific category for video review.

Troy Vincent, the league's football operations chief, says it is on the agenda to discuss with the competition committee and the players' union in February.

In responding to questions about helmet-to-helmet hits and players launching to make tackles, Vincent said Wednesday that the NFL has seen targeting reviews "work to a degree" in the college game.

Goodell signs 5-year extension

Roger Goodell signed a fiveyear contract extension to remain league commissioner through 2024.

A memo from the NFL's compensation committee to team owners and obtained by The Associated Press confirms that Goodell and committee chairman Arthur Blank, owner of the Atlanta Falcons, have signed the extension.

That extension has been a source of controversy because Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones objected to the process.

All 32 owners approved in May the compensation committee's power to negotiate and sign a deal with Goodell.

The Kansas City Chiefs suspended Marcus Peters for Sunday's game against the Oakland Raiders after the cornerback's tantrum during a loss to the New York Jets last weekend.

Peters threw an official's flag into the stands after a late penalty and left the field even though he had not been disqualified.
