Washington hands fi rst defeat to No. 2 Kansas

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Matisse Thybulle hit five three-pointers and scored 19 points, Jaylen Nowell added 15 points and Washington led most of the way in upsetting second-ranked Kansas 74-65 on Wednesday night.

Noah Dickerson added 13 points and 14 rebounds for the Huskies (7-2), who beat the Jayhawks (7-1) for the first time since December 1974.

Lagerald Vick had a careerhigh 28 points for Kansas, doing almost all his damage in the middle of the Huskies' 2-3 zone. But he didn't get a whole lot of help as the Jayhawks went 5 for 20 from the threepoint arc.

Aundre Jackson scored 23 points, Cameron Krutwig added 14 and Loyola-Chicago (9-1) stunned host Florida (5-3), handing the Gators a third consecutiv­e loss. The Gators shot 36.9 percent from the field, missed 17 of 19 three-point attempts and finished with just seven assists. Michael Finke scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds to help host Illinois (7-3) squeeze out a victory over Austin Peay (4-5).

Shizz Alston Jr. scored 22 points and hit four free throws late to lead host Temple (5-2) over Wisconsin (4-6). The Badgers' Ethan Happ matched a season-high with 23 points, but was held scoreless over the final five minutes. Darrell Davis scored 19 points, Dayton (4-4) shot 61 percent after halftime and beat Tennessee Tech (7-3). Davis scored five of his points in the last 2:41.

Reggie Jones scored seven of his career-high 27 points during the decisive second-half run and host Western Michigan (5-4) beat Cleveland State (2-6). Tre'Shaun Fletcher scored 16 points with a career-high 15 rebounds and made a fade-away three-pointer at the buzzer to lift Toledo (5-3) over host Detroit Mercy (4-5). Emmanuel Olojakpoke scored a career-high 24 points and grabbed seven rebounds as host Akron (4-2) held on to beat Fort Wayne (6-4). Fort Wayne's Kason Harrell made a three to cut it to 81-79 with 29 seconds left but missed two more in the final 15 seconds. Ohio Wesleyan (6-1, 2-0) closed the game with a 9-2 run for a North Coast Athletic Conference win over host Wabash (2-3, 1-1). Nate Axelrod had 21 points for OWU.

UCLA canceled Wednesday night's home game against Montana because of wildfires in the area. Several wildfires are burning throughout Southern California, including near the UCLA campus.
