BC hands Duke first loss of season

BOSTON — Ky Bowman totaled 30 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists to help Boston College beat top-ranked Duke 89-84 on Saturday and send the Blue Devils to their first loss of the season.

Jordan Chatman scored 22 for BC (7-3, 1-0 Atlantic Coast Conference), hitting four straight free throws in the final 16 seconds. The Eagles have won their last three games against the No. 1 team in The Associated Press top 25.

Gary Trent Jr. scored 25 for Duke (11-1, 0-1).

Duke erased a 10-point deficit in the second half and led 79-75 with 3:30 to play. But Boston College scored 12 of the next 14 points, getting a pair of three-pointers from Jerome Robinson. Duke's Trevon Duvall drove to the basket to make it 83-81 with 31 seconds left, but then he was called for an intentiona­l foul on Chatman as BC tried to dribble out the clock.

Chatman made both free throws, and then with BC retaining possession he was fouled again and made two more. A threepoint­er by Trent made it 87-84, but then Robinson was sent to the line and hit his free throws with six seconds left.

NO. 3 MICHIGAN STATE 88, SOUTHERN UTAH 63: Miles Bridges, Nick Ward and Jaren Jackson each scored 17 points to lead host Michigan State (9-1) over Southern Utah (5-4). The Thunderbir­ds trailed by just five points midway through the second half before the Spartans took control with a 21-7 run to take a 79-60 lead with 4:45 left.

NO. 6 WICHITA STATE 78, OKLAHOMA STATE 66: Landry Shamet scored a career-high 30 points to lead visiting Wichita State (8-1) past Oklahoma State (7-2). The Shockers made 12 of 26 three-pointers and outrebound­ed the Cowboys 36-26.

ARKANSAS 95, NO. 14 MINNESOTA 79: Jaylen Barford scored 22 points and freshman Daniel Gafford added 16 on 8-of-8 shooting to help host Arkansas (7-2) upend Minnesota (8-3), which lost for the third in four games. Jordan Murphy led the Golden Gophers with 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Amir Coffey had 18 points and Nate Mason 17.

NO. 18 WEST VIRGINIA 69, PITTSBURGH 60: Jevon Carter scored 19 points and Daxter Miles Jr. added 15 to help visiting West Virginia (9-1) fend off a furious secondhalf run by Pittsburgh (5-5). The Panthers trailed by as many as 20 but closed within two points with 5:30 to go before the Mountainee­rs clamped down late.

LOUISVILLE 71, INDIANA 62: Deng Adel scored 16 points, including a key jumper with 41 seconds remaining, and Dwayne Sutton followed with a layup off a steal 12 seconds later to help host Louisville (6-2) hold off Indiana (5-5). The Hoosiers got within 65-62 with 58.2 seconds left on De'ron Davis' free throw, but Adel soon answered with a jumper as the shot clock wound down to make it a five-point game. Ryan McMahon then stole the ball and fed Sutton on the break for a layup to make it 69-62, and Quentin Snider (13 points) added two free throws with 16 seconds left.

CREIGHTON 75, NEBRASKA 65: Marcus Foster scored 17 of his 19 points in the second half, and host Creighton (8-2) beat Nebraska (7-4) for the seventh straight time. The Bluejays shot 59 percent after halftime.
