Duo helps Academy stop London in double overtime

Dorrian Moultrie scored 23 points and Chris Boyle 20, and the duo provided most of the late-game heroics as host Columbus Academy edged London 67-65 in double overtime of a Mid-State League Ohio Division boys basketball game Saturday.

Moultrie turned a turnover into a fastbreak basket in the closing seconds of regulation to force overtime. Moultrie then hit a threepoint­er as time expired at the end of the first overtime. Boyle hit a pivotal three-pointer with 45 seconds remaining in the second overtime to give the Vikings (4-0, 1-0) a 66-63 lead.

Isaiah Hatem scored 20 points on 6-of-6 threepoint shootingto pace London (3-1, 0-1). DUBLIN COFFMAN 79, WALNUT RIDGE 70: Dominiq Penn scored 21 of his 35 points in the second half, including two three-pointers in the fourth quarter, enabling host Coffman (3-0) to pull away from Walnut Ridge (0-3). Von Cameron Davis (20 points) and Roshawn Reaves (18) paced the Scots.

HARVEST PREP 69, WELLINGTON 56: Chris Anthony scored a career-high 33 points, and host Harvest Prep (1-0, 1-0) beat Wellington (1-2, 0-1) in a Mid-State League Cardinal game. INDEPENDEN­CE 73, CANAL WINCHESTER 69: Tyrone Flowers scored 20 points, and Benjamin James scored nine of his 15 points in the fourth quarter to lift host Independen­ce (3-1) over Canal Winchester (1-2). Stanton Smith (17 points) and Brady Snyder (16) led the way for Canal.

GIRLS

NEW ALBANY 55, TEAYS VALLEY 52: Olivia Gittens hit a 23-foot three-pointer with 2.5 seconds left to rally host New Albany (4-1) past Teays Valley (3-2) in a nonleague game. Gittens scored off a length-ofthe-court inbound pass from Josie Smith, who led the Eagles with 21 points. Gittens added 13. Teays Valley led by seven entering the fourth quarter. NORTHLAND 46, UPPER ARLINGTON 35: Jeana Weatherspo­on scored 17 of her 28 points in the second half, and host Northland (5-1) pulled away for a nonleague win over Upper Arlington (3-1). Macy Spielman had 12 points for UA. DESALES 46, DUBLIN JEROME 32: With 20 points, Emma Burns became the fifth player for DeSales (2-2) to top 1,000 for her career.

Cross country

Zach Kreft of Buckeye Valley placed 12th (15 minutes, 48.2 seconds) and Matt Scrape of Pickeringt­on Central 19th (15:58.5) in the 39th annual Foot Locker Cross Country Championsh­ips National Finals race in San Diego. Another Ohioan, Chad Johnson of Colonel Crawford, took 11th (15:46.6).
