CANAL WINCHESTER 17 Senior be? 4.1 Basketball

She has been accepted by Ohio State and Akron and is also interested in Duquesne, Albany Medical College and Philadelphia University. Interested in becoming a physician’s assistant.

What was the strangest college essay question you’ve had to write about?

One question that got me was which fictional character I relate to most. I put down a surgeon from Grey’s Anatomy. Most of the essays revolved around why I wanted to become a physician’s assistant, and those went pretty smoothly. A couple of the essays had to be 1,000 words. Others were as short as 250 words.

What would your major

If I go to Ohio State I’d probably major in biology and move to the physician’s assistant graduate program. I’ve had a fractured back, broken arm and eye disease that I was born with and have been in and out of doctor’s offices. I have an uncle, Louis Bowman, who is a doctor. My dream was to become a cardiothoracic surgeon, but I wasn’t interested in 14 years of schooling. I could always go into ER or trauma.

How did you get a back stress fracture?

My freshman year my back was flaring up, but I was a captain on the jayvee team and was pushing hard. I got to the point where I didn’t practice and played in only games. But I eventually had to sit out eight weeks. I couldn’t even carry a backpack. I had pain for almost a year. Sometimes I still have pain, but it’s not as bad. What is Youth to Youth? Last year was the last year the school had the club. Now, we have a Drug Free of America program. Youth to Youth promoted anti-substance awareness. We partnered with the middle school and had activities with the students. I joined with friends as a freshman and wound up really liking it. It’s too bad it’s gone.

What happens in Spanish Club?

I never liked Spanish in middle school, but this year I’ve been taking independent study through Columbus State. I will take Spanish II next semester. (Teacher) Senora (Pilar) Frey got me interested in the language. I was treasurer last year. This year, I’m president. We play Spanish games and learn about culture and holidays. For Christmas, we’ll have a secret Santa. You don’t even have to know much Spanish.

Is there any project with National Honor Society?

I was inducted last year, and I’ve got 39½ hours of service. You need 40 hours. We did a kids basketball camp last summer. That was five hours credit even though it was an entire week. I volunteered at a concession stand during soccer and volleyball season. I worked with the Lions Club in Canal Winchester at a running and bicycle race. There were clues the competitors had to answer at various stations, and I was at one of the stations.

What happens in Indians Club?

That’s where I do most of my volunteering. I’ve been a member for four years. We’ve served at the food pantry and local Christmas at the Village program. There is a preschool carnival we’ve worked. Now, we are working at the Fairfield County Animal Shelter. We’ve raked leaves for people and have delivered Valentine candy at a senior center. Where do you work? I work at Shade on The Canal, which has a Rooster’s or BW3 atmosphere — a sports bar. That has such a home atmosphere in downtown Canal. I used to be a hostess, but now I work in the back making pizzas, cookies, subs and appetizers. It can get hectic, but I like it that way.
