Olentangy knocks off No. 1 UA

Sean Marks scored 10 of his game-high 18 points in the fourth quarter and Olentangy upset visiting Upper Arlington, the topranked Division I team in Ohio, with a 68-60 victory Tuesday night in a nonleague game.

Jerred Kinnaird, who made seven free throws, and Alex Sieve, who had three threepoint­ers, each added 16 points for Olentangy (7-5), who turned a 51-50 fourth-quarter deficit into the final margin.

Dane Goodwin and Will Grabovac each had 16 points for Upper Arlington (10-1), which had an 18-game regular-season winning streak halted. JeJuan Weatherspo­on had a season high 25 points, William Mfum added 18 and the two combined to make 23 free throws as Northland (5-4, 4-1) fought off visiting East (7-2, 4-1) in the City League North. Weatherspo­on made 11 of 14 free throws and Mfum 12 of 15 for the Vikings, who went to the line 36 times overall, making 27. Mike White led East with 18 points.

Qian Magwood scored 15 points and made eight free throws in the fourth quarter — including two with 8.7 seconds remaining — to give visiting Walnut Ridge (6-4, 4-1) a City South win over Africentri­c (6-4, 3-2). Von Cameron Davis led the fourth-quarter charge with 16 points, and he finished 26 overall for the Scots. Trey Baumgartne­r had 20 points for Africentri­c, which turned the ball over seven times in the final quarter.

Girls

Markyia McCormick scored 21 points and Canal Winchester (8-4) pulled away from visiting Lancaster (8-5) in nonleague action. McCormick’s 12 points in the fourth doubled that of Lancaster, as the Indians closed the game with an 18-6 quarter. Jazzlynn Gaiters had 22 points, 16 rebounds and eight steals in leading Thomas Worthingto­n (6-4, 5-1) to an OCC Cardinal win over host Hilliard Darby (9-6, 3-3). Breanne Beatty added 20 points for the Cardinals, 16 in the second half, with the help from four three-pointers.

Teneea Heston had 15 points and shot 9 of 13 from the line to salvage a win for Hilliard Bradley (5-7, 3-3) over visiting Dublin Scioto (8-5, 5-1) in the OCC Cardinal. Abbey White had 17 points for Bradley, which made 18 of 31 free throws overall. Kennedie Lomax paced Scioto with 12 points.

Emily Londot’s layup with six seconds remaining gave host Utica (12-2, 7-0) the Licking County League win over now second-place Newark Catholic (11-2, 6-1).
