Coalition leaders blast GOP plan
Critics of a recently introduced Republican congressional redistricting plan came together Monday to make their case against it, saying it could worsen gerrymandering.
Members of the Fair Districts = Fair Elections coalition spoke about their issues with Senator Matt Huffman’s redistricting proposal and argued in favor of their own plan, which they say would allow voters better representation.
Ohio NAACP President Tom Roberts said Huffman’s plan would “institutionalize” gerrymandering and worsen the situation in Ohio. Roberts also said Huffman’s plan, which allows large counties to be split multiple times, could fracture minority neighborhoods.
Some things we can live without. When our central air died, we made do and fired up the box fans.
That was a few years ago, and we still haven’t bothered to replace the A/C. The summers haven’t been intolerable, and the white noise/ cicada musical mashup has been a nice bonus.
A refrigerator is another matter.
Our current fridge, a nofrills, top-freezer model that came with the house, is in its death throes.
Every few days I wrench the ice bucket free of the latest glacier and extract the Van de Kamp’s Crunchy Fish Sticks. I pound at the ice flow with a meat tenderizer as chunks fly and the dog hides. I tried a hair dryer, but the possibility of death in such an asinine fashion, however slight, made that a one-shot deal.
