Police find woman’s body in house on Hilltop
Columbus police found a woman's body Saturday morning inside a vacant house in the 500 block of South Oakley Avenue on the Hilltop.
Acting on a report of a body in the building, officers went into the house around 11:30 a.m. Police said the woman appeared to be a victim of a homicide. This is the 10th homicide in the city this year.
Officers on the scene Saturday evening would not comment. They had blocked off three houses on South Oakley. Crime-scene tape stretched across Oakley Avenue and nearby Springmont Avenue, blocking Oakley, as well as Springmont, from Oakley to nearby South Wheatland Avenue.
A van labeled Crime Scene Search Unit arrived about 5:30 p.m., and neighbors said police had been there all day. There were at least five police vehicles in the area.
The neighbors, who declined to give their names, said the last residents of the house had been renters and had left in the fall. The house is listed as being owned by a Chicagobased mortgage company.
The neighbors said they hadn't heard anything out of the ordinary.
Police said they are working to identify the body and find family as the investigation continues. They didn't comment on how the Police blocked off three houses and the street, after the body of a woman was discovered in a home on Oakley Avenue, on the Hilltop, Saturday morning. woman had died or how long the body had been in the house.
