BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The Blue Jackets came into a game Tuesday night at the New York Islanders with 175 shots on goal their previous four games combined — a franchise record for a four-game span.

That included 50 Saturday against the New Jersey Devils — the sixth-highest total in franchise history — and 49 versus the Islanders at Barclays Center on Feb. 3, when they posted a single-period franchise record of 26 in the opening 20 minutes.

“When you’re shooting (a lot), it gets you in an attack mentality,” wing Nick Foligno said. “And it’s helped our team. It gives you a singular focus … and it’s got to continue, if not more. Let’s throw 60 shots on net and see what happens.”

Coach John Tortorella said the Jackets have concentrated on piling up shots “to try to help us get some consistency scoring goals.”

Added Tortorella, “The way teams shut down shooting lanes and block shots in this league now, if you’re not anticipating you’re going to shoot the puck before it comes to you, that split-second, it’s blocked.”

Kukan, Sedlak back in

Defenseman Dean Kukan and Lukas Sedlak were back in the lineup Tuesday in place of healthy scratches Scott Harrington and Markus Hannikainen.

Tortorella said he went with Harrington and Hannikainen the previous game on “a gut feeling” and “I wanted to give them an opportunity to play.” Both “did what they needed to do” in their first action in several games. He added of the four players, “I don’t think there’s a big gap as far as these guys in and out of the lineup.”

Sergei Bobrovsky made his fourth consecutive start in goal and eighth in nine games.
