Wisconsin upsets struggling Purdue

MADISON, Wis. — Ethan Happ had 21 points and 12 rebounds, and Wisconsin secured its biggest win of a challengin­g season, beating No. 6 Purdue 57-53 in Big Ten play on Thursday night.

Brad Davison added 16 points for the Badgers (1216, 5-10), who handed the Boilermake­rs (23-5, 12-3) their third straight loss.

Carsen Edwards, who finished with 22 points, missed a three-point try with 12 seconds left to end Purdue’s comeback hopes. Wisconsin’s Brevin Pritzl hit 3 of 4 free throws over the final 19 seconds to seal a win that had fans rushing the court after the final buzzer.

Women

Dominique Oden made two straight three-pointers late in the game, and Purdue (17-10, 8-5 Big Ten) shocked host Maryland (22-4, 11-2) to end the Terrapins’ sevengame winning streak. The loss dropped Maryland’s conference lead over Ohio State and Nebraska to one game with three to play.
