Offensive coordinator Ryan Day will receive additional compensation for each year he remains an Ohio State football assistant coach on top of his $1 million salary, according to the term sheet provided to The Dispatch.

If Day remains on staff at the end of January 2019, he will receive $200,000. The bonus increases to $300,000 if he stays through January 2020, and $350,000 if through January 2021.

Day, who shares the coordinator title with Kevin Wilson and also coaches quarterbacks, is the only coach with a multiyear contract who will get such a payment.

Ohio State’s contracts with its assistant coaches were released Wednesday. Defensive coordinator Greg Schiano, who will earn $1.5 million in 2018, and Day are the first Buckeyes assistants to earn at least $1 million in base salary.

Day agreed to a three-year contract, the longest term of any OSU assistant. Defensive coach Alex Grinch, running backs coach Tony Alford, defensive line coach Larry Johnson and new cornerbacks coach Taver Johnson have two-year deals. The salaries for all coaches in future years of their contracts are undetermined and must be approved by the university’s board of trustees.

Schiano, Wilson, linebackers coach Bill Davis, offensive line coach Greg Studrawa and receivers coach Zach Smith have oneyear deals.

Bonuses to assistants based on Ohio State’s success remain the same with the new contracts. They include an 8.5 percent bonus for winning a Big Ten divisional championship, 4.25 percent for winning the Big Ten championship, 17 percent for playing in a New Year’s Six bowl game, 4.25 percent for playing in a nonplayoff bowl game as long as Ohio State wins at least nine games, and 21.25 percent for losing a College Football Playoff semifinal or 25.5 percent for winning a semifinal.

Coaches also get a $600 stipend per month for automobile costs and are provided a limited number of season tickets for football and men’s basketball.

All coaches except Wilson must pay Ohio State $100,000 if they leave during their contract, unless it is for a head coaching position. Wilson’s contract stipulates that he must pay $50,000.
