Wrestlers close regular season with victory over N.C. State

Second-ranked Ohio State ended its wrestling regular season in style as it overwhelme­d No. 6 North Carolina State 29-6 on Sunday afternoon at Reynolds Coliseum in Raleigh.

The Buckeyes (14-1) won eight of 10 bouts and tacked on five bonus points to dispatch the Wolfpack (14-2). World and Olympic champion Kyle Snyder racked up 10 takedowns on the way to a 23-8 win over Michael Boykin in a 285-pound match. Ke-Shawn Hayes (149) managed an 11-5 decision over Beau Donahue for the sixth victory in a row for Ohio State.

The lone Buckeye shutout came via Te’Shan Campbell (165), who blanked Brian Hamann 7-0. Bo Jordan (174) closed it out for Ohio State with a pin of Daniel Bullard in 1:37 to post his 80th career win.

Baseball

Brady Cherry drove in three runs on two hits and Jacob Barnwell and Bo Coolen each added two RBI as the Buckeyes (3-1) routed Milwaukee 13-3 to conclude the Snowbird Classic at North Charlotte Regional Park in Port Charlotte, Florida.

Six different Buckeyes had multi-hit games, part of a 14-hit assault against the Panthers (1-3). Ohio State trailed 2-0 after one inning but took the lead for good in the top of the second thanks to RBI from Coolen, Cherry and Dominic Canzone. The Buckeyes totaled eight runs in the middle innings to pull away. Starting pitcher Yianni Pavlopoulo­s worked five innings for his first win of the season.

Softball

Emily Clark hit a solo homer in the top of the third inning to begin the scoring, and No. 22 Ohio State shut out Louisville 4-0 at Dail Stadium in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Shelby McCombs added a run-scoring single as part of a two-run seventh for the Buckeyes (8-1). Ohio State starter Morgan Ray picked up her fourth win as she went the distance and allowed only three hits and struck out six against the Cardinals (6-3).

Men’s volleyball

Sanil Thomas produced 30 assists to lead No. 5 Ohio State past Quincy 25-22, 25-15, 25-15 in a Midwestern Intercolle­giate Volleyball Associatio­n game at St. John Arena.

Maxime Hervoir had 11 kills for the Buckeyes (11-2, 4-0), who had five players each manage at least four killss. Ohio State fell behind 4-0 to open the third set but responded with six straight points and never trailed again against the Hawks (8-6, 0-4).
