UA’s Goodwin named top boys player in Division I

Brett Norris, who guided Hilliard Bradley (26-2) to its first district championsh­ip and into a regional title game, earned the coach of the year award.

Indiana-bound Jerome Hunter of Pickeringt­on North, who averaged 21.0 points and 10.7 rebounds and was codistrict player of the year with Goodwin, made first-team all-Ohio.

The remainder of the first team consisted of Sincere Carry of state tournament-bound Solon, Alonzo Gaffney of Garfield Heights, Jaret Pallotta of Massillon Jackson, Mason McMurray of StowMunroe Falls, Vincent Williams of Toledo St. John's, Darius Bazley of Cincinnati Princeton, Jaxson Hayes of state tournament-bound Cincinnati Moeller and Darius Quisenberr­y of Huber Heights Wayne.

JT Shumate of Newark, Treuahn Williams of Reynoldsbu­rg and Ben Roderick of Olentangy Liberty made second team, and VonCameron Davis of Walnut Ridge was third team.

In Division II, Jelani Simmons of Beechcroft, who helped his team to a 26-2 record and City League and district titles, made first team all-Ohio. Simmons averaged 20.0 points, 6.1 rebounds and 5.7 assists.

Pete Nance of Richfield Revere, a 6-10 senior who has signed with Northweste­rn, was selected player of the year. Nance, a son of former Cleveland Cavaliers great Larry Nance, averaged 21.0 points, 12.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 4.0 blocks.

Chad Burt of Wauseon was coach of the year.

The remainder of the first team consisted of Cameron BrooksHarr­is of Zanesville, Trey Singleton of state tournament qualifier Byesville Meadowbroo­k, Jerry Higgins of Cleveland Villa Angela-St. Joseph, Dwayne Cohill of Parma Heights Holy Name, Austin Rotroff of Wauseon, Kollin Van Horn of Proctorvil­le Fairland, Terry Durham of Cincinnati Woodward and Myles Belyeu of state qualifier Trotwood-Madison.

Taevion Kinsey of Eastmoor Academy made second team. Garrett Tipton of Hartley and Colin Woodside of Fairfield Union were third team.4
