Sammy’s on 5th boots Bar 145 but keeps burgers

- By Gary Seman Jr.

Sammy’s on 5th has replaced Bar 145 at 955 W. 5th Ave. in the Grandview Heights area, although build-your-own burgers will remain the top draw at the strip-mall spot.

The menu is getting seriously downsized as Sammy’s new owners have decided not to carry on with the Bar 145 brand.

The Toledo-based burger chain opened its lone central Ohio location six years ago.

The Sammy’s ownership team is Bill Heichel, his son, Adam Heichel, and Michelle Byers.

Byers said they acquired the space from the previous Bar 145 franchisees and were given the option of continuing with the brand or recasting the restaurant. They chose the latter.

Sammy’s, which seats 350 inside, is a few blocks west of Olentangy River Road. There’s also a spacious patio, complete with fire pits.

The place will continue its tradition of live music and casual bill of fare, Byers said.

The new menu should be in place in a week or two, followed by light cosmetic work in the interior, Byers said.

“We’re transitioning slowly,” she said. Sammy’s on 5th will feature live music and casual food. feet of private offices and co-working space, including conference rooms, event spaces and, of course, a full liquor license.

COhatch has two locations in Worthington open now, its Newsstand location will open in Delaware this fall, with the Pub at Polaris and the Overlook in Upper Arlington opening this winter.

The District PourHouse, a new, locally owned bar and restaurant, has replaced World of Beer in the Gateway-University District near Ohio State.

The 4,500-square-foot space at 1568 N. High St. offers a full repertoire of classic, Ohio and global craft beers, 50 of which will be on tap.

Menu items include build-your-own hot dogs, biscuit bowls, burgers, sandwiches and shareable plates.

Also look for vintage video games and sports programming on largescreen TVs throughout the space.
