Williamson’s 27 points lead Duke to rout of Army

Zion Williamson had 27 points and 16 rebounds, and No. 4 Duke pulled away to beat Army 94-72 on Sunday in Durham, North Carolina.

Cameron Reddish finished with 25 points and a third freshman — RJ Barrett — had 23 while Williamson added six blocked shots and four assists for the Blue Devils (2-0).

Playing five days after routing No. 2 Kentucky in the Champions Classic, they shot 49 percent but couldn’t shake the Black Knights until the final 10 minutes, finally pulling away with an 11-0 run keyed by 3-pointers from Barrett and Reddish.

Matt Wilson scored 15 points and Tommy Funk added 10 for Army (1-1), and Funk hit back-to-back 3s to pull the Black Knights to 67-61 with just over 12 minutes left.

Reddish hit a driving layup, and he and Barrett each hit 3s on consecutiv­e possession­s to push the lead into double figures for good. Reddish added another 3 to stretch the lead to 78-61 with just over 9 minutes left.

NO. 10 MICHIGAN STATE 106, FGC 82: Nick Ward had 25 points and 10 rebounds, and Joshua Langford added 18 points to lead Michigan State (1-1) past Florida Gulf Coast (1-2) in East Lansing, Michigan. Cassius Winston contribute­d 14 points and eight assists for the Spartans. NO. 5 VIRGINIA 76, GEORGE WASHINGTON 57: Kyle Guy and Ty Jerome scored 20 points each and Virginia (2-0) rolled over George Washington (0-3) in Charlottes­ville, Virginia. Guy scored 17 in the first half, matching the Colonials’ total, as Virginia opened a 42-17 lead at the break. IOWA 93, GREEN BAY 82: Luka Garza scored 17 points, Tyler Cook added 17 and Iowa (2-0) overcame a sluggish start to beat Green Bay (1-2) in Iowa City, Iowa. Green Bay’s Sandy Cohen III and Manny Patterson scored 17 points apiece. NEBRASKA 87, SE LOUISIANA 35: James Palmer, Jr. scored 17 points and Nebraska (2-0) took control with a 22-0 first half run to overwhelm Southeaste­rn Louisiana (1-2) in Lincoln, Nebraska. The Lions missed 10 straight shots and turned the ball over nine times during that stretch. RUTGERS 95, DREXEL 66: Eugene Omoruyi had his second-straight double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds and Geo Baker scored 20 points to lead Rutgers (2-0) past Drexel (0-2) in Piscataway, New Jersey.
