‘Heart­beat’ bill stalls, prob­a­bly for the year

The Repub­li­can­dom­i­nated Ohio Se­nate de­layed Thurs­day vot­ing on a bill to ban abor­tions once a fe­tal heart­beat can be de­tected, mak­ing it al­most cer­tain the “Heart­beat Bill” will not pass this year.

With its chair­man cit­ing the need to re­view numer­ous amend­ments sub­mit­ted by Repub­li­can and Demo­cratic mem­bers, the Se­nate Health, Hu­man Ser­vices and Med­i­caid Com­mit­tee ad­journed Thurs­day with­out ad­vanc­ing the bill to a widely an­tic­i­pated floor vote by the full Se­nate.
