Teays Val­ley girls rally for OT win

Bri Rus­sell’s layup with 12 sec­onds re­main­ing in over­time capped the sec­ond of two late ral­lies for host Teays Val­ley, which de­feated Cir­cleville 49-48 on Fri­day night in a Mid-State League Buck­eye girls bas­ket­ball game.

Rus­sell, who fin­ished with seven points, re­ceived a pass un­der the bas­ket from Jay­lah Cap­tain on the Vik­ings’ fi­nal possession. Cap­tain scored 25 points, in­clud­ing 12 in the fourth quar­ter and six in OT.

Cir­cleville (4-1, 1-1), which led 36-24 af­ter three quar­ters and 46-41 early in over­time, got 18 points from Ken­zie McCon­nell. She gave the Tigers a 48-47 lead with un­der a minute left in OT af­ter Cap­tain made con­sec­u­tive threes to erase the five-point deficit.

The Vik­ings (3-1, 2-0) shot just 3 of 31 in the first half but later outscored the Tigers 17-5 in the fourth quar­ter.

SOUTH 55, IN­DE­PEN­DENCE 46: Trin­ity Mc­Clure had 17 points, A’Maya Hope­wood added nine with 12 re­bounds and South (3-1, 1-1) downed vis­it­ing In­de­pen­dence (2-2, 1-1) in the City League South. WESTER­VILLE SOUTH 77, OLENTANGY 61: Gabby Hutch­er­son scored a sea­son-high 23 points, in­clud­ing 15 in the sec­ond half, to help host Wester­ville South (2-1, 1-0) de­feat Olentangy (3-2, 0-2) in the Ohio Cap­i­tal Con­fer­ence Buck­eye Divi­sion. BOYS WESTER­VILLE SOUTH 79, OLENTANGY 69: Jor­dan McMil­lan had 27 points, in­clud­ing seven in over­time, and Wester­ville South (2-1, 1-0) out­lasted vis­it­ing Olentangy (2-1, 1-1) in the OCC Buck­eye. The Wild­cats, which held the ball for the last 90 sec­onds of reg­u­la­tion but could not se­cure the win, made 20 of 27 free throws and drained all 10 at­tempts in OT. Noah Gos­sett made five three­p­oint­ers and to­taled 16 points for the Braves. OLENTANGY LIB­ERTY 81, OLENTANGY ORANGE 66: Ben Rod­er­ick scored a ca­reer-high and school­record 37 points as Olentangy Lib­erty (1-1, 1-0) beat Olentangy Orange (2-1, 0-1) in an OCC Buck­eye game. Rod­er­ick hit 13 field goals and made 10 of 11 free throws. He had 11 points in the open­ing quar­ter and 14 in the fourth, when the Patriots posted 33 points. Bryson Lane led Orange with 22 points. DUBLIN SCIOTO 41, OLENTANGY BER­LIN 31: Dapreis Owens had 11 points and 10 re­bounds, and Dublin Scioto (2-0, 1-0) pulled away from vis­it­ing Olentangy Ber­lin (0-2, 0-1) in the OCC Car­di­nal. Jake Moeller had 11 points and eight boards for Ber­lin, which was tied with Scioto 27-27 to start the fourth quar­ter. DUBLIN COFF­MAN 73, HIL­LIARD DAVIDSON 57: Do­miniq Penn scored 21 points, Luke Bartemes added 19 and Dublin Coff­man (3-0, 1-0) drained 13 three-point­ers on the way to an OCC Cen­tral win over vis­it­ing Hil­liard Davidson (1-1, 0-1). Bartemes led the Sham­rocks with five threes, and Penn scored nine points in the fi­nal quar­ter and led Coff­man with six free throws. Ja­cob Drees paced Davidson with 15 points.
