Teays Valley girls rally for OT win
Bri Russell’s layup with 12 seconds remaining in overtime capped the second of two late rallies for host Teays Valley, which defeated Circleville 49-48 on Friday night in a Mid-State League Buckeye girls basketball game.
Russell, who finished with seven points, received a pass under the basket from Jaylah Captain on the Vikings’ final possession. Captain scored 25 points, including 12 in the fourth quarter and six in OT.
Circleville (4-1, 1-1), which led 36-24 after three quarters and 46-41 early in overtime, got 18 points from Kenzie McConnell. She gave the Tigers a 48-47 lead with under a minute left in OT after Captain made consecutive threes to erase the five-point deficit.
The Vikings (3-1, 2-0) shot just 3 of 31 in the first half but later outscored the Tigers 17-5 in the fourth quarter.
SOUTH 55, INDEPENDENCE 46: Trinity McClure had 17 points, A’Maya Hopewood added nine with 12 rebounds and South (3-1, 1-1) downed visiting Independence (2-2, 1-1) in the City League South. WESTERVILLE SOUTH 77, OLENTANGY 61: Gabby Hutcherson scored a season-high 23 points, including 15 in the second half, to help host Westerville South (2-1, 1-0) defeat Olentangy (3-2, 0-2) in the Ohio Capital Conference Buckeye Division. BOYS WESTERVILLE SOUTH 79, OLENTANGY 69: Jordan McMillan had 27 points, including seven in overtime, and Westerville South (2-1, 1-0) outlasted visiting Olentangy (2-1, 1-1) in the OCC Buckeye. The Wildcats, which held the ball for the last 90 seconds of regulation but could not secure the win, made 20 of 27 free throws and drained all 10 attempts in OT. Noah Gossett made five threepointers and totaled 16 points for the Braves. OLENTANGY LIBERTY 81, OLENTANGY ORANGE 66: Ben Roderick scored a career-high and schoolrecord 37 points as Olentangy Liberty (1-1, 1-0) beat Olentangy Orange (2-1, 0-1) in an OCC Buckeye game. Roderick hit 13 field goals and made 10 of 11 free throws. He had 11 points in the opening quarter and 14 in the fourth, when the Patriots posted 33 points. Bryson Lane led Orange with 22 points. DUBLIN SCIOTO 41, OLENTANGY BERLIN 31: Dapreis Owens had 11 points and 10 rebounds, and Dublin Scioto (2-0, 1-0) pulled away from visiting Olentangy Berlin (0-2, 0-1) in the OCC Cardinal. Jake Moeller had 11 points and eight boards for Berlin, which was tied with Scioto 27-27 to start the fourth quarter. DUBLIN COFFMAN 73, HILLIARD DAVIDSON 57: Dominiq Penn scored 21 points, Luke Bartemes added 19 and Dublin Coffman (3-0, 1-0) drained 13 three-pointers on the way to an OCC Central win over visiting Hilliard Davidson (1-1, 0-1). Bartemes led the Shamrocks with five threes, and Penn scored nine points in the final quarter and led Coffman with six free throws. Jacob Drees paced Davidson with 15 points.
