Here’s who wants to serve in Dewine’s cabinet
Term-limited state lawmakers are looking forjobs.
And some directors appointed by outgoing Gov. John Kasich want to keep their jobs.
Applicants seeking cabinet director positions are flooding the transition team of Gov.-elect Mike Dewine, Ohio’s Republican attorney general, with their resumes.
The response to a public records request by The Dispatch — for those expressing interest in working for the incoming Republican who did not necessarily file through an online jobs portal — shows who is lining up for what.
Here is a partial list of those seeking to lead state agencies in the Dewine cabinet once he takes office Jan. 14: • Administrative Services: Kathleen Crites Madden, chief of human resources and labor counsel, attorney general’s office
• Aging: Current Director Beverley Laubert; Kathleen Crowley, executive director, Ohio Board of Tax Appeals
• Agriculture: Interim Director Tim Derickson; fired director David Daniels; Pickaway County Commissioner Jay Wippel
• Development Services: Current Director David Goodman
• Developmental Disabilities: Jeffrey Davis, government relations director, Ohio Provider Resource Association; State Sen. Kevin Bacon, R-westerville
• Environmental Protection: Current Director Craig Butler; William Schuck, lawyer and former Ohio House member; Wippel

Term-limited State Rep. Mike Duffey, R-worthington, and Kimberly Lowe Hall, senior vice president and general counsel at Columbus State Community College, also applied, but records did not indicate what cabinet positions they were seeking.
Several applicants expressed interest in leading the Department of Commerce, but Dewine previously nominated Sheryl Creed Maxfield, chief counsel to Dewine in the attorney general’s office, as commerce director.
Dewine also has announced his cabinet director choices of Bureau of Criminal Investigation Superintendent Thomas Stickrath at the Department of Public Safety and Kimberly Murnieks, the attorney general’s chief operating officer, at the Office of Budget Management.
The governor-elect also has chosen Alisha Nelson, director of substance-abuse policy in the attorney general’s office, as director of the Recoveryohio opioidfighting office; Mary Mertz, Dewine’s first assistant attorney general, as director of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources; and Army Maj. Gen. John C. Harris Jr. as adjutant general of the Ohio National Guard.
