LGBTQ theater unveils schedule

Evolution Theatre Company will focus on history and mystery in 2019 with three area premieres, a new play and classic musical.

Central Ohio’s LGBTQ theater will begin operating next year under a smallprofe­ssional-theater contract with Actors’ Equity Associatio­n.

All production­s will take place at the Columbus Performing Arts Center, 549 Franklin Ave.

(May 22 to June 1): The haunted-house comedy-mystery revolves around six relatives gathered for the reading of a will.

(July 17-27): The musical features a gay fashion designer transporte­d to a 1970s gay bar after buying a New Orleans building.

• "Who Killed Joan Crawford?" (Aug. 21-31): The comic murder mystery involves male guests, dressed as Crawford in her signature roles, waiting for a surprise party.

• "Cabaret" (Sept. 18-28): The Broadway musical focuses on a Berlin nightclub during the rise of Hitler in Germany.

• "The Turkey Men" (Oct. 16-26): Local playwright Douglas Whaley’s new play deals with two ghosts of gay Civil War soldiers and a 2016 couple that arrives at their turkey farm with a lesbian teenager who they are trying to turn heterosexu­al.
