The Columbus Dispatch

Federal employees work for the taxpayers

-

I respond to the Nation & World Report item “House GOP repeats call for probes of FBI, Justice” in the Dec. 29 Dispatch that said Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., and Bob Goodlatte, R-VA., have requested an investigation alleging negative bias against the president.

I fully agree that all actions and decisions made in an official position should be based on facts and laws and not determined on personal bias. To make decisions based on personal biases to help or hurt someone is unethical.

Federal employees work for the people of our nation and not the president or other individuals. Granted, federal employees have the same rights as any citizen to freely believe and support elected officials of their choice. However, they are not allowed to make arbitrary decisions in an attempt to support or repress people based on their personal beliefs.

If we are going to root out negative bias against the president, we should also fire anyone with a positive bias who wears a MAGA cap. Doug Smith, Gahanna was captured.

Everyone needs to step out of their safe little lily-white life and live as a person of color, a person from another land, religion, etc. Stop being told what to believe by your church, your president, your families and think for yourselves with your heart.

Pretend Delaware, Ohio, attacked Plain City. You have no food, doctors, clean water, safety, and your neighboring cities tell you to suck it up and stay out: “Victims are not welcome here.” Do you stay there with your kids and fight back, allowing them to die, or do you try to save their lives?

No, we shouldn’t have completely open borders, but we should greatly increase the number of workers helping to save these people, get the paperwork done, etc.

Marsha Underhill, Canal Winchester advertised before hiring noncitizens. Secondly, amend the law that says that anyone born in this country is an American citizen, even if the parents are not here legally or visiting our country.

Their children should be considered citizens of the same country as that of the parents. These two changes would make it less attractive to come to the U.S. Of course, a lot of details would have to be worked out, but the present system is just working to attract illegals. Perhaps that is the first place to start.

Leslie Smith, Columbus Why do pedestrians, or others using the crosswalk, think the red numbers are telling them how much time they have to begin to cross?

As a pedestrian and a driver, I wish all pedestrians would realize those numbers indicate when the green light will turn red, allowing drivers zero time to make a right turn if pedestrians are still in the crosswalk after they should be.

Perhaps the skateboarder learned a painful lesson. Nancy Mily, Columbus
