Louisville hands Williams record home loss at UNC

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Roy Williams suffered his worst home loss in 16 seasons with North Carolina as Louisville stunned the 12th-ranked Tar Heels 83-62 on Saturday.

Connecticu­t transfer Steven Enoch had season highs of 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Cardinals. Dwayne Sutton added 17 points and 10 rebounds while flirting with at triple-double, and Louisville (11-5, 2-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) bounced back from a frustratin­g loss to long-struggling Pittsburgh.

Kenny Williams scored 12 points for the Tar Heels (12-4, 2-1), who shot 35 percent — including 3 of 22 on 3-pointers — and committed 11 second-half turnovers.

NO. 4 VIRGINIA 63, CLEMSON 43: Kyle Guy had 13 points, De’andre Hunter scored 12 and Virginia improved to 15-0. The Cavaliers turned up their trademark defense to make it a long afternoon for Clemson and maintain their run as the ACC’S only undefeated squad at 3-0. The Tigers (10-6, 0-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) cut a doubledigi­t lead to 29-27 on Marcquise Reed’s basket early in the second half. Virginia, though, followed with an 18-5 run where it made five 3-pointers.

NO. 8 TEXAS TECH 68, TEXAS 62: Matt Mooney scored 22 points to lead Texas Tech (15-1, 4-0 Big 12) to a victory over Texas (10-6, 2-2), the Red Raiders’ first win in Austin since 1996. Mooney scored 14 points in the second half and keyed the Red Raiders rally that seized the lead with consecutiv­e 3-pointers on Tech’s first two baskets after halftime. Kerwin Roach II scored 17 for Texas. MINNESOTA 88, RUTGERS 70: Amir Coffey scored 29 points to lead a balanced scoring attack as Minnesota defeated Rutgers. Jordan Murphy scored 15 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, Dupree Mcbrayer scored 15 points and added 10 assists for Minnesota (13-3, 3-2 Big Ten). Myles Johnson scored a careerhigh 13 and Geo Baker also scored 13 points for the Scarlet Knights (8-7, 1-4).

NO. 7 KANSAS 73, BAYLOR 68: Lagerald Vick scored 18 points with six 3-pointers on his 22nd birthday and Kansas (14-2, 3-1 Big 12) held on for a win at Baylor (9-6, 1-2). Dedric Lawson added 17 points for Kansas while Devon Dotson had 14. Freshman Ochai Agbaji had 10 in his second game. Butler had 14 points to lead Baylor, while Vital and Bandoo each had 11. Makai Mason scored 10.

NO 3. TENNESSEE 78, FLORIDA 67: Grant Williams scored 20 points, Jordan Bowden added 17 off the bench and Tennessee rallied to beat Florida for their 10th consecutiv­e victory. Williams made 8 of 11 shots to go along with nine rebounds and four assists. Bowden accounted for 14 consecutiv­e points in the second half for the Volunteers (14-1, 3-0 Southeaste­rn Conference). Kevaughn Allen led the Gators (9-6, 1-2) with 18 points.
