US, Australia split singles in Fed Cup

Playing in Asheville, North Carolina, the United States came back to split the opening singles with Australia in the Fed Cup’s opening round.

Ashleigh Barty gave Australia a win over Sofia Kenin in winning 6-1, 7-6 (2).

But Madison Keys defeated Kimberly Birrell, playing her first tie in three years, 6-2, 6-2.
