A new business has launched in Columbus to help manage and support urology practices.

The company, U.S. Urology Partners, continues a trend in which physician groups partner to become more efficient and to share overhead costs, said CEO Mark Cherney.

“We’ve seen physician consolidation under hospital systems for the last 15 to 20 years. The alternative is to merge or consolidate with other doctor groups,” Cherney said. “For the last dozen years, we’ve seen specialty providers in radiology, dermatology, anesthesia ... doing this. Urology is one of last groups to join in.”

Central Ohio Urology at 350 W. Wilson Bridge Road in Worthington is the first practice to partner with U.S. Urology, which is headquartered at 701 Tech Center Drive in Gahanna.

Future physician partnership locations will include a new urology facility at Mount Carmel Grove City, which is expected to open later this spring. The plan is to expand the business nationwide.

Cherney cited “the challenges of operating costs, reimbursement pressures” and other issues facing physicians. To patients, he said, the partnership with U.S. Urology should be transparent.

Private equity firm NMS Capital is providing the funding for U.S. Urology. Based in New York, it specializes in health careservices investments.
