Sheldon, Greene first-team All-ohio in Division I
Ohio State signee Jacy Sheldon of Dublin Coffman and Penn State-bound Madison Greene, who has powered Pickerington Central into a second straight state tournament, each made first-team on the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association Division I All-ohio teams.
Sheldon, a 5-foot-11 senior guard, capped a brilliant career by averaging 28.3 points, 7.1 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 5.1 steals while shooting 59 percent from the field. A threetime Ms. Basketball finalist, Sheldon finished her career with 2,347 points — 13th in Ohio history.
Greene, a 5-7 senior, is the driving force for a 27-1 Pickerington Central team ranked No. 1 in Ohio and attempting to defend its state title this weekend. She averaged 16 points, 5.8 assists, 5.6 rebounds and 4.0 steals.
Kierstan Bell of Canton Mckinley, another member of Ohio State’s highly ranked incoming freshman class, was selected player of the year for the third straight year. The 6-1 Bell averaged 28.8 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.0 blocks, 3.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game in leading her team to a regional final.
Other firstteam choices were Constance Chaplin of Euclid, Sammie Puisis of Mason, Shyanne Sellers of Aurora, Jala Johnson of state qualifier Toledo Notre Dame, Destiny Leo of Eastlake North, Destiny Bohanon of Huber Heights Wayne and Gabbie Marshall of state qualifier Cincinnati Mount Notre Dame.
Dave Zvara, who guided Avon Lake to its first district game in 18 years, was coach of the year.
Katie Shumate of Newark, Maliya Perry of Pickerington Central, Macy Spielman of Upper Arlington and Uju Ezeudu of Reynoldsburg made second team. Teammates Anyssa Jones and Sommer Pitzer of Westerville South and Annie Rauch of Hilliard Darby were third team.
In Division II, Zia Cooke of state-bound Toledo Rogers was selected player of the year. The 5-9 senior guard and South Carolina signee averaged 22.5 points, 6.9 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 3.6 steals per game.
The only central Ohio first-teamer was Samaria RodgersGossett of district champion Eastmoor Academy. The 5-6 senior guard averaged 14 points and five assists while shooting 68 percent from the field.
Rounding out the first team were Annika Corcoran of Gates Mills Gilmour, Dayshanette Harris of Youngstown Ursuline, Mikala Morris of Springfield Kenton Ridge, Hannah Haithcock of Washington Court House, Layne Ferrell of Franklin, Casey Santoro of Bellevue, Madison Royal-davis of Toledo Rogers and Maddie Antenucci of Cincinnati Indian Hill.
Kevin Cornell, who guided New Philadelphia to an unbeaten regular season in his first year on the job, was named coach of the year.
Carlisa Strickland of Independence made second team, while Chloe Davis of Bloom-carroll and Kenzie Mcconnell of Circleville were third team.
