Penn State routs OSU hockey

Nate Sucese scored two goals, and Penn State overwhelme­d top-seeded Ohio State 5-1 in a Big Ten hockey tournament semifinal Sunday before 4,545 at Value City Arena.

Alex Limoges added a goal and an assist for the Nittany Lions (2214-2). Brandon Biro and Liam Folkes also added goals.

John Wiitala scored the only goal for the Buckeyes (20-10-5) to make it 4-1 early in the third period. Goalie Tommy Nappier made 31 saves.

Penn State will play for the title Saturday at Notre Dame, which beat Minnesota 2-1 in overtime Saturday.

Baseball

Ohio State (9-10) defeated visiting Lipscomb 7-6.

The Bisons had the bases loaded in the ninth inning, but reliever Joe Gahm entered with two outs and fanned Maddox Houghton with a curveball on a 1-and-2 count.

Left-hander Seth Lonsway improved to 2-2 after limiting the Bisons (10-8) to three hits and one run with five strikeouts in six innings. The Buckeyes’ Conner Pohl went 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored. Zach Dezenzo also homered and drove in two runs.

Softball

Ohio State dropped a 4-3, eight-inning decision to Grand Canyon at the GCU Invitation­al in Phoenix.

The Antelopes (17-13) scored three runs in the first inning to put the Buckeyes (15-9) in an early hole.

Claire Nicholson’s RBI single got Ohio State on the board in the fourth. The Buckeyes tied it in the seventh with a two-rbi single by Kallie Boren.

Men’s golf

Ohio State’s Daniel Wetterich shot an even-par 72 to go with two rounds of 70 to finish in eighth place at 4 under at the Linger Longer Invitation­al in Greensboro, Georgia.

Caleb Ramirez finished in a tie for 13th place at 2 under and had his second eagle of the season in the final round.

Ohio State finished eighth in the 15-team field at 3 over. Georgia won at 19 under.

Women’s tennis

Ohio State opened the Big Ten season with a 6-1 win over visiting Penn State.

The 13th-ranked Buckeyes (12-2) are on a nine-match winning streak.

Women’s gymnastics

In its last meet of the regular season, Ohio State posted a score of 194.925 to finish fourth in a quad with host West Virginia, Penn State and North Carolina State.

The Buckeyes will compete at the Big Ten championsh­ips starting Saturday at Penn State.
