Legend goes from having 0 wills to 3

-

PONTIAC, Mich. — Three handwritten wills have been found in the suburban Detroit home of Aretha Franklin, including one discovered under cushions in the living room, a lawyer said Monday.

The latest is dated March 2014 and appears to give the singer’s assets to family members. Some writing is hard to decipher, and the four pages have words scratched out and phrases in the margins.

Franklin died in August at age 76. Lawyers and relatives had said she had no will, but three wills were discovered this month. Two from 2010 were found in a cabinet after a key was found.

An attorney for Franklin’s estate, David Bennett, told a judge he’s not sure if the wills are legal. A hearing is scheduled for June 12.
