Lost for ideas for Father’s Day? These three options might help

- By Eric Lagatta The Columbus Dispatch

Your dad probably has enough wacky ties and power tools. This Father’s Day, why not opt for doing something with Dad? Perhaps nothing is more quintessentially “dadfriendly” than taking pops to cast a line at a pond, grill up a juicy burger or work on his tee shot at a driving range.

Luckily, all three activities are available on Sunday in central Ohio.

provide bait.

Organizers will give a safety demonstration before anyone casts a line, but visitors are welcome to come and go as they please during the two-hour outing.

“It’s a good way for parents to bond with their kids and teach them a new skill,” park naturalist Sarah Hunter said. “Spend some time outside and have fun and have some quality time together.”

Each class ticket includes a seat at the dinner table. Guests who aren’t cooking can still eat dinner for a fee.

The venue hosted a similar event in May for Mother’s Day that proved to be popular, said Karen Chrestay, general manager of the food lab.

“Everyone had such a great time that we thought, ‘What the hey, let’s try it for Father’s Day as well,’” Chrestay said. “It’s a good opportunity for them to increase their skills and also prepare a special meal for Dad.” Columbus franchise is offering a few promotions for Father’s Day.

Typically, patrons can reserve one bay for up to six players and two additional guests. (Each bay has one tee — think of it like bowling, where all the players use one lane.) On Sunday, though, they have the ability to reserve two bays side by side.

“You can have a true party,” said Ann Murrell, marketing manager at the franchise.

Families can also give Dad the gift of a slice-free drive with a three-lesson package at a reduced rate of $225 that comes with a pack of Callaway golf balls.

Clubs are provided. The first floor is more kid-friendly and includes child-sized clubs. The venue also includes bars with televisions on each floor as well as food and refreshments.

“We definitely see families thrive in our venue,” Murrell said. “This is truly an activity than anyone from 9 to 90 can enjoy.”
