Reds 5, Brewers 4, 11 innings

CINCINNATI — The Reds beat the Milwaukee Brewers 5-4 in 11 innings Tuesday night when Yasiel Puig scored from first on Jose Iglesias’ single and right fielder Christian Yelich’s throwing error.

Puig singled on a 0-and-2 pitch with two outs in the 11th. Iglesias chopped one into right, and Puig made it easily to third. The ball got away from Eric Thames, and Puig took off when he saw the ball get away and scored with a headfirst slide.

The Reds bullpen — Michael Lorenzen, Jared Hughes, Amir Garrett and Raisel Iglesias — pitched 4 innings of hitless, scoreless relief.

The Reds trailed 4-2, but Puig cut the lead to one with a home run in the seventh, and Joey Votto tied it with a two-out RBI double in the eighth.

Reds starter Tanner Roark gave up three home runs despite coming into the game allowing 0.735 home runs per nine innings — third best in the majors. Roark went 6 innings and allowed four runs on six hits. He walked one and struck out five. He threw 99 pitches, 64 for strikes.

The Reds got off to a quick 2-0 lead. Nick Senzel led off the first with a single to left. An out later, Eugenio Suarez connected on a knee-high, 93-mph fastball and sent it out to left-center, a 412foot shot that left the bat at 105 mph.

It was Suarez ‘s 20th home run of the year and fourth in three games.

To start the fourth, Roark left a 93-mph fastball on the outer half of the plate to Yelich, who hit it out to left to cut the lead in half. It was his major leagueleading 31st home run of the year and second in as many nights.

Thames tied it in the fifth with another opposite-field shot to left.

Mike Moustakas hit a two-run shot in the sixth to give Brewers a 4-2 lead.
