Mexican police threaten strike over reassignment

-

President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador struggled Thursday to contain an uprising by federal police over the government’s plan to move them into a massive new security force that will crack down on criminal gangs and U.s.-bound migrants.

Hundreds of rebellious police personnel seized control of their national command center on the edge of Mexico City on Wednesday and were still holed up there a day later. Other officers blocked a major highway between the capital and the northern city of Pachuca.

Under one of Lopez Obrador’s most important overhauls, most of the federal police — about 20,000 officers — are to be absorbed into the newly formed new National Guard, along with tens of thousands of military police personnel.

The demonstrating officers are angry over cuts in their pay and benefits under the new force, and they are worried that some officers won’t pass compulsory entrance exams for the National Guard. They are threatening a national strike. decide people’s asylum status.

The court announced its decision Thursday. It also ordered Ludvigsen to pay his victims damages totaling 743,000 Norwegian kroner (about $87,000).

The abuse took place between 2011 and 2017. The victims are now in their 20s and 30s.

Kor and her twin sister, Miriam, were the sole survivors of their family after losing their mother, father and two older sisters on the selection platform at Auschwitz, the museum said. The then-10-year-old girls were among about 1,500 sets of twins who were subjected to horrendous genetic experiments by Nazi doctor Josef Mengele. Most of them died as a result.

The Auschwitz Memorial in Poland said it had recorded a testimony with Kor just five days ago for its archive. Bahamas Police Force said the cause of the crash was under investigation. The crash occurred two miles off Grand Cay and was reported late Thursday.

The statement did not provide the names of the people killed but identified them as four women and three men.
