Piercy leads by two after first round of 3M Open

Scott Piercy went on a late birdie binge en route to a 9-under 62 and the firstround lead at the inaugural 3M Open on Thursday in Blaine, Minnesota.

Adam Hadwin and Hideki Matsuyama were each two shots back after a 7-under 64 at the TPC Twin Cities.

Seeking his fifth career tour win and first since the 2018 Zurich Classic, Piercy birdied one of his first seven holes and eight of his final 11, including a nearly 30-foot putt on No. 16 to get to 8 under.

Liu fires 62 for lead at Thornberry Creek

Yu Liu tied the course record with a 10-under 62 for a one-shot lead in the Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic in Oneida, Wisconsin.

Liu, a 23-year-old from China, had a one-shot lead over Jeongeun Lee and Yealimi Noh.

Liu started on No. 10 and shot a 30 on the back nine, including an eagle on the par-5 13th hole.

Nearly half of the 140player field shot in the 60s.

Sung Hyun Park, who won last week in Arkansas to return to No. 1 in the world, opened with a 65. bard in the opening round of the Irish Open in Lahinch.

Harrington, making just his eighth start worldwide this year because of a wrist injury, made eight birdies and a bogey at Lahinch, an Alister Mackenzie-designed links on Ireland’s West coast.

Lombard closed with three straight birdies for a 64. Lt. Alex Camacho said the Ford F250 Norton was driving crashed into a concrete barrier and overturned early Thursday on State Road 836 near Miami.
