Buckeyes’ Jallow faces surgery

Ohio State junior wing Musa Jallow will undergo an arthroscopic procedure on his right ankle today and will be out indefinitely, a team spokesman announced.

Jallow has missed the preseason while dealing with what has been an unspecified lower leg injury. On Wednesday, coach Chris Holtmann said Jallow had been back in practice some but hadn’t been available for full-contact work.

“Musa overall is progressing, but I think time will really tell,” Holtmann said. “He’s involved in noncontact activities right now. It’s really an unknown right now as to what his availability will be at the start of the season. The wing position, after Andre (Wesson), we’re trying to figure out.

“We’re not going to rush him back. It’s not in his best interests. He’s not involved in contact. He’s not been able to be a part of full practices right now. When that’ll happen remains to be seen.”

At the team’s media day two days before the start of preseason practice, Jallow said he wasn’t sure if the injury was related to previous ankle issues.

“We’re not totally sure why,” he said. “The information that

we’ve seen is that those old injuries have healed. It could also be good to take a step back. I’ve been going extremely hard.”

At that time, Jallow said he expected to be back by the start of the season. Now, on a roster with plenty of depth, he could be a

candidate for a medical redshirt should he be out much longer.

As a sophomore, Jallow appeared in all 35 games, with 13 starts. He averaged 2.9 points and 2.9 rebounds in 15.0 minutes.
