Linebacker arrested after lifting Grove City cop

Dash-cam video footage shows Eastern Kentucky football player Michael Harris lifting a police officer over his head during an incident that led to his arrest last Monday in Grove City.

According to the Grove City Police Department arrest report, Harris is facing four charges: assault, resisting arrest, obstructing official business and disorderly conduct. Assaulting a police officer in Ohio could be considered a felony.

A woman who worked at a local establishment called police to report a disturbance. When the first officer arrived on the scene, per the report, Harris was “agitated, not able to stand still and not able to stick to one story.” He was talking excessively, dancing and “throwing his arms around,” the report said, which led officers to surmise he was under the influence.

The video shows Harris approaching a second officer who arrived on the scene while putting his arms in the air. When the officer informs Harris he is under arrest, per the report, Harris attempted to reenter his vehicle. The officer began using mace, and Harris covered his head with his hood to avoid exposure.

In the struggle, the 6-foot-3, 245-pound Harris lifted one of the officers over his head.

Lt. Eric Scott told ESPN that Harris began banging his head on the ceiling of the police cruiser, “yelling he was a linebacker in football and used heroin and crack cocaine.”

He was placed in a restraint, and medics arrived to provide calming medicine, the report said. Harris was transported to a nearby hospital and eventually taken to Franklin County Jail.

Harris, a former fourstar recruit from Tucker, Georgia, committed to Auburn over Alabama, Georgia and Ohio State in July 2017. He transferred from Auburn after his redshirt freshman and appeared in 11 games last season for Eastern Kentucky.

In a statement, the school said it was aware of the incident and charges against Harris. The school has suspended him indefinitely from all team- and footballrelated activities.
