Bruins continue to surge with win over Rangers

Charlie Mcavoy, Charlie Coyle, Patrice Bergeron each scored, and the Boston Bruins began a four-game road trip with a 3-1 win against the New York Rangers on Sunday.

Jaroslav Halak made 25 saves as Boston picked up its ninth win in 10 games.

Mika Zibanejad scored, but the Rangers’ four-game winning streak was snapped. Alexandar Georgiev made his third start in a row for New York and had 31 saves.

Coyle scored the game winner with a shorthande­d goal at 18:42 of the second period. The forward stole a puck from Jacob Trouba at the blueline, then out skated everyone on the ice before converting a breakaway for his 14th of the season.

Mcavoy opened the scoring at 19:18 of the first period after a puck took an odd bounce over the head of Georgiev.

Mcavoy tossed a shot near the net and the puck bounced off two Rangers skaters before finding the back of the net. Mcavoy also scored in the Bruins’ 4-1 win against the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday.

PENGUINS 5, RED WINGS 1: Patric Hornqvist had two goals and an assist and the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Detroit Red Wings. Hornqvist has 14 goals this season. Sidney Crosby scored his 11th of the season, Kris Letang added his 14th on the power play and Sam Lafferty also scored for Pittsburgh, which moved within one point of firstplace Washington in the

Metropolit­an Division. OILERS 4, HURRICANES 3 (OT): Josh Archibald scored his second goal of the game in overtime, NHL points leader Leon Draisaitl had a goal and two assists, and the Edmonton Oilers beat the Carolina Hurricanes. Draisaitl set up Archibald’s goal 3:57 into overtime for his 95th point of the season. Kailer Yamamoto also scored for Edmonton, and Mike Smith had 28 saves.

DUCKS 5, CANUCKS 1:

Adam Henrique scored twice, Derek Grant had a goal and an assist, and the Anaheim Ducks beat the Vancouver Canucks. Brendan Guhle and Sam Steel also scored for the Ducks, who have wins in two of their last three games.

PREDATORS 2, BLUES 1:

Kyle Turris scored with 2:12 left, and the Nashville Predators beat the St. Louis Blues to take the season series from the defending Stanley Cup champs. Better yet, Nashville improved to 13-11-4 at home where the Predators have struggled all season. They now have won seven of their last 10, climbing a point out of the Western Conference’s second wild card.

BUFFALO 5, TORONTO 2:

Jack Eichel scored the go-ahead goal as part of a three-goal surge in a 91-second third-period span, and the Buffalo Sabres beat the Toronto

Maple Leafs.

Johan Larsson had a goal and assist, and defensemen Rasmus Ristolaine­n and Colin Miller had two assists each. Conor Sheary, Jimmy Vesey and Kyle Okposo also scored, and Buffalo won its third consecutiv­e game.

SENATORS 4, STARS 3 (OT): Artem Anisimov scored at 3:48 of overtime to give the Ottawa Senators a win over the Dallas Stars. Jean-gabriel Pageau, Brady Tkachuk and Tyler Ennis also scored for the Senators. Craig Anderson stopped 36 shots.

POSTPONED BLUES-DUCKS GAME RESCHEDULE­D:

The Anaheim Ducks’ postponed game against the St. Louis Blues will be played March 11.

The NHL announced the new date Sunday for the game that was postponed after Blues defenseman Jay Bouwmeeste­r collapsed on the bench during the first period last Tuesday. The game will begin with a 1-1 score, as it was at the time of the postponeme­nt.
