Three people killed in separate crashes
Three people have died as a result of separate crashes, one of which occurred two weeks ago.
According to Columbus police, the July 20 crash happened near the intersection of Mound Street and Souder Avenue in Franklinton.
Police said 28-year-old Luke Huffines, of the Northwest Side, was driving a 2005 Yamaha motorcycle east on West Mound Street around 9:45 p.m. A dark blue 2015 Chrysler 200, with an unknown driver, attempted to turn left from West Mound Street onto Souder
Avenue in the path of Huffines, who was thrown from his motorcycle.
The Chrysler briefly stopped at the scene and then fled, according to witnesses. Vehicle parts found at the scene are consistent with a 2015 Chrysler 200.
Huffines was taken to Ohiohealth Grant Medical Center. He died Friday, 11 days after the crash, from his injuries.
Also on Friday, a 67-year-old man from the Northeast Side was killed.
Around 5 p.m. Friday, Dan Wilson, 67, was operating an electronic wheelchair across Morse Road near Northtowne Boulevard. Wilson was struck by a 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe driven by 60-year-old Letitia Haag, of North Linden.
Wilson was ejected from the wheelchair. He was taken to Ohiohealth Riverside Methodist Hospital, where he died from his injuries a short time later.
A person was also killed after a crash on Interstate 71 early Sunday morning.
The crash occurred shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday in the northbound lanes of Interstate 71, near the area of the East Fifth Avenue exit.
One person was transported to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center where they later died. No additional information about the victim or the crash was available as of Monday morning. bbruner@dispatch.com @bethany_bruner
