Man killed amid spate of shootings

A 23-year-old man was found shot to death on the Near East Side late Tuesday amid another night of violence in Columbus, according to Columbus police.

Shortly after 11 p.m., police were called to the 800 block of Seymour Avenue on a report of shots being fired. Officers arrived to find 23-yearold Tahzje Patterson of the Near East Side lying in the street with gunshot wounds. Medics pronounced Patterson dead at the scene at 11:12 p.m.

Patterson’s death is the city’s 77th homicide this year.

Patterson was shot about an hour after police had responded to a report of shots being fired outside a convenienc­e store in the 4400 block of Westervill­e Road on the Northeast Side.

Police said the gunfire in that 10:07 p.m. incident didn’t hit anyone, but it shattered a window of a car, injuring a 1-year-old inside. The child was treated at the scene.

At least four other vehicles and the business were damaged as well.

Officers were again called to the Northeast Side around 11:25 p.m. on another report of shots being fired, this time in the 1800 block of Jermain Avenue.

Police arrived to find 16-year-old Cherrish Allen with a gunshot wound to a thigh. Allen had been in a home struck by more than 55 bullets. She was taken to an area hospital for treatment but was expected to make a full recovery, police said.

Ten minutes later, officers were called to the 2300 block of Mcguffey Road in the South Linden neighborho­od on a report of gunshots. As officers were responding, they were made aware that a 17-year-old had been taken by a private vehicle to Ohiohealth Grant Medical Center with three gunshot wounds to his back.

The teen, who has not been identified, told police he had approached a vehicle parked on Mcguffey Road when someone stuck a handgun out of the open back window on the driver’s side and fired shots.

The teen was expected to survive his injuries, police said.
