COSI seeks to engage children with new initiatives
COSI Columbus has partnered with the Columbus Metropolitan Library and the Ohio Governor’s Imagination Library on two new initiatives connecting reading with science.
The partnership with Columbus Metropolitan Libary includes weekly storytelling activities through October on COSI’S online education portal “COSI Connects” (cosi.org/connects). Videos will be published on the website each Tuesday beginning Sept. 22.
Additionally, many COSI Connects daily activities will include corresponding book recommendations to encourage further education.
Book checkouts from the library will come with COSI Connects bookmarks.
At the same time, COSI has joined forces with the Imagination Library to revamp its already existing “COSI Learning Lunchboxes.” Launched amid the pandemic with funding from the Franklin County Board of Commissioners, the program involves the distribution of STEM kits filled with hands-on science activities throughout Franklin County.
The partnership with the Ohio Governor's Imagination Library means that each kit will soon include forms encouraging parents to sign up their children age 5 and younger to receive a free new book each month, as well as book recommendations from the Columbus Metropolitan Library.
COSI — which has been closed since March 13 due to the coronavirus pandemic — is making both programs accessible by traveling across the state to community gathering locations through its Back-to-school Roadshow.
