Ohio reports 800 new virus cases

An additional 800 Ohioans were diagnosed with COVID-19 as of Sunday, bringing the statewide case total to 150,809, according to the state Department of Health.

Sunday’s caseload was smaller than the three-week average of 964 new cases reported per day. Over 3 million COVID-19 tests have been administered across the state.

The average positive test rate for Ohioans over the previous seven days increased slightly to 2.9% as of Friday, the most recent day for which data is available.

Deaths on Sunday rose by one, which is far below the three-week average of 23 new deaths reported per day, but smaller numbers are typical for weekend reports. The virus has killed 4,741 Ohioans, according to the state health department.

As of Sunday, an additional 31 people were hospitalized, which is fewer than the three-week average of 65 new hospitalizations per day. An additional four Ohioans were admitted to intensive care units, which is below the three-week average of 10 new ICU admissions a day, according to the state.

On Sunday, 639 Ohioans remained hospitalized with COVID-19, including 199 in ICUS and 91 on ventilators, state data shows.

Meanwhile, the Ohio Investigative Unit cited Average Joe’s Pub and Grill in Dublin on Saturday night for violating health orders to reduce the spread of the coronavirus. Agents from the unit observed staff members pouring and serving alcohol past the 10 p.m. restriction, according to a State Highway Patrol release.

The establishment will face possible fines and/or the suspension or revocation of its liquor permit when the case goes before the Ohio Liquor Control Commission.

Among other Ohio bars cited over the weekend was the Bout Time Tavern in Delaware.

Franklin County has reported the most COVID-19 cases at 26,961 and the second most deaths at 607. Cuyahoga County has reported the most deaths with 656 and the second-highest number of cases at 17,490, according to the state. ethompson@dispatch.com @miss_ethompson
