Aren’t there other ways to deal with knife-wielder? Editorial cartoon was insult to Justice Barrett

-

I am certain I am not the only one who wonders what a man holding a knife can do to 10 to 15 people standing at least 10 feet away (“30 cops hurt in protests after Black man killed,” USA TODAY article, Wednesday's Dispatch). What is going through the minds of the police? Is it "shoot to kill" or rather "how can we convince him to put the knife down without holding several guns at him." If it is the former, why unload all your guns at him instead of aiming solely at his arm?

Has anyone ever done a study on how police think when they are confronted with these difficult situations? Isn't it about time?

The editorial cartoon of Justice Amy Coney Barrett by Mike Luckovich as a “handmaiden” in Wednesday's Dispatch has to be one of the most offensive and insulting political cartoons yet seen. Justice Barrett is one of the most accomplished individuals in our country. Rather than suggesting that she is backward and subservient, she should be held out as a modern-day example to others on how a successful career can be achieved while having a wonderful family when a married couple works together to achieve their respective life goals.

Contrary to the caricature, many of society's ills would be better addressed if the benefits of a successful marriage, to both the couple and their children, were promoted rather than demeaned just because an individual's personal views conflict with a progressive agenda.
