Bidens’ dog will return to the White House
WILMINGTON, Del. – President Joe Biden, in an interview that aired
Wednesday, said that his dog Major, who had been involved in a biting incident at the White House, was “a sweet dog.” He explained the biting by saying that the dog had “turned a corner, there’s two people he doesn’t know at all, you know, and they move and moves to protect.”
Biden added that “85% of the people there love him.” Major, a 3-year-old rescue dog, and Champ, who is 12, were moved to the Bidens’ Delaware home after the incident, but the president said they would return to the White House.
The president said “the dog’s being trained now” in Delaware but disputed the idea that the pup was sent away after the incident. He said the dogs went to Wilmington because the first couple was going to be out of town.
Columbus police have released surveillance images of the suspected gunman, an intended target and two other people who they say were involved in a confrontation that led to shots being fired Monday inside Polaris Fashion Place.
The police division released the images on social media Tuesday afternoon, asking for the public's help in
identifying those shown.
Police were called to the mall around 3:15 p.m. Monday on a report of shots being fired. A confrontation between two groups of young people escalated into at least one person firing multiple shots on the first floor of the mall near a rotunda area, Sgt. James Fuqua said. No injuries were reported.
The possible gunman has been identified in the images released by police as a young man wearing a yellow hoodie with a distinct black box with a white image of what appears to be a car inside. The male is also wearing jeans that are multiple shades of blue and is carrying what appears to be a bag with a purchase from one of the stores inside the mall.
Another young man in the photographs as possibly being involved is wearing a black striped top and gray and black camouflage pants while carrying a drink. Police have said that male is the possible intended victim.
Additional photos show a young man and a young woman whom police identify as "associates" involved in the incident. Those include photos of a male wearing a black jacket of some kind, white tennis shoes with black soles and a red, white and blue marking on a pair of black pants, possibly as a fanny pack or similar item.
A female in a white jacket and light wash jeans is also shown running from the area.
Anyone with information about the people in the photographs is asked to call Detective Dave Younker at 614-6454133 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS.
Police are also continuing to search for two men involved in an exchange of gunfire at Polaris mall on March 3.
The two suspects police have identified as responsible for the March 3 shooting are 21-year-old Anthony Deshawn Truss Jr., of Reynoldsburg, and 25-year-old Levon Sommerville, of the Northeast Side. Both remained at large at mid-afternoon Tuesday.
Police said the two men got into an argument inside the Carter's/osh Kosh B'gosh store, located on the first floor of Polaris, around 12:30 p.m. that day. Somerville is suspected of firing at Truss inside the store, prompting Truss to return fire outside the store in the mall as Sommerville walked away, according to police. bbruner@dispatch.com @bethany_bruner
