Catherine E. “Katie” Dodrill, age 90, passed peacefully on Saturday, April 17, 2021, at Kobacker House in Columbus, with her loving family by her side, following a brief illness. Katie was born December 21, 1930, in Marion, Ohio, the youngest
of five children, to the late
Eugene “Doc” and Leno (Oiler) Phillips. One fateful day in Marion’s downtown, Katie met a dashing young man and veteran of the Korean War, Robert E. “Bob” Dodrill. They quickly fell in love and married on January 25, 1948. They shared
fifty-three wonderful years
of marriage and lovingly raised two children, Linda and Thomas. Robert preceded her in death on June 24, 2001. While her children were growing up, Katie took pride in caring for her family and was employed at Sears Department store as a sales representa
tive for over twenty-five
years. Katie was a faithful member of the Prospect
United Methodist Church until she and Bob moved from Prospect to Marion in the early 1990’s. She then became a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church, which now is the Crosswood United Methodist Church. She also was a member of the Marion Country Club, the Artisan’s Guild, and the Blue Thong Society. Throughout her life, Katie loved fashion. No matter the occasion, she was always dressed to impress and loved compliments. She especially loved shopping at her favorite store, Jeffrey Thomas, owned by her son and his partner. Katie loved to travel and over the years made her way to places that were warm and sunny but also enjoyed the nightlife of dining and dancing. Later in life, she enjoyed trips to New York to see Broadway shows and many vacations to Florida with family and friends, all to be cherished forever. Katie was simply a delightful person in every way. She was fun-loving and had a way of lighting up the room with her warmth and charisma. Left to cherish her memory are her two children, Linda Clingenpeel (David Palmer), and Thomas Dodrill (Jeffrey Ross), all of Columbus; two grandchildren, Kelli Rhyan and Chad (Jennifer) Clingenpeel; four grandchildren, Abby Rhyan, Matthew and Audry Clingenpeel, and Megan Douglas; and numerous nieces and nephews. Including her husband and parents, Katie was preceded in death by her son-inlaw Daniel Clingenpeel, a special friend Dale Bartow, two brothers Carl and Herbert Phillips, and two sisters Virgie Gray Shearer and Marey Prettyman. Her family will greet friends from 10:30-11:30AM on Friday, April 23, 2021, at the Crosswood United Methodist Church (address below). Services honoring her life well lived, will follow there at 11:30am, with Rev.
Jennifer Bass officiating.
Masks will be required for anyone attending services at the church.
