Chaffin, Donald
fin, 69, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away on April 15, 2021, surrounded in love by his family. Gene was born to parents Minyard and Mildred Chaffin, on May 24, 1951, in Columbus, Ohio. He grew up in Ohio, joined the Navy and returned to raise and love his family for nearly 50 years. He found Christ in the late 80’s where he was accepted with faults and without judgement as a member of Southside Church of Christ in Washington Court House, Ohio. His profession relocated him to upstate New York where he attended
Clarence Church of Christ, Clarence NY. Gene returned to his home state where he moved to Delaware, Ohio and attended Worthington Christian Church. Gene married Brenda, the love of his life n 1971, who survives him and will always love and cherish him. He is also survived by son, Donald Chaffin and wife, Tracie; son, Scott Chaffin and wife, Kristann; and daughter, Angela Benfield and husband, Robert; as well as seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild, Rick and Julie Vanmeter and many nieces and nephews. Gene is also survived by sisters, Gail, and Janice; and brother, Raleigh. Gene was predeceased by parents Minyard and Mildred Chaffin, bothers Ray and Doug, and sisters Patty and Dada. Gene was known for his love of family, using his hands, fishing, baseball, football, and bluegrass. You will always hear him described as a hard worker who never sat idle and always had a project. Returning often to Lake Nipissing in Canada he genuinely enjoyed the peacefulness of surroundings and the thrill of a hookset while fishing. As a sports fan, he expressed his love of the Yankees and Packers on all who knew him and was able to fulfill his sports dreams by visiting both home fields for playoff games. Gene was also a great banjo picker who was part of the family jamborees many summer weekends. Family gatherings were one of his fondest times where all his siblings and their families were together, enjoying what their parents had provided to this world. In recent years Gene may have sat his banjo in the corner as his ability to play had dwindled, but it was never lost in his heart. A memorial service will be held in May and extended to a small gathering at Gene’s request. The family hopes that people make donations in support of Lung Cancer and reduction of dependency, in lieu of sending flowers.
