Igoe, Daniel

1943 - 2021

-

Daniel James Igoe’s authentic love of life, compassion for everyone and quirky sense of humor will be long remembered by those who knew him. Dan passed away comfortably at the Kobacker House on April 15, 2021, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born April 22, 1943, in Gary, Indiana, to the late John D. Igoe and Mary V. Igoe. Some may say Dan’s passing was just in the nick of time to provide heavenly guidance to the University of Notre Dame’s Football team. If you knew Dan you understood that he would be late for his own funeral, so those he loved could continue to ponder his existence just a bit longer. Dan made long commitments, namely to his wife Patty for 53 years, the Columbus Bar Association, the Ohio State Bar Association and the Downtown Athletic Club of Columbus as an active member of each for more than 50 years. You may remember Dan from his dogged play under the basket at the Athletic Club basketball, where he played until he was 70 years old and “de-evolutionized” defense. Dan was a proud alum and generous supporter of St. Charles Preparatory High School class of 1961, the University of Notre Dame class of 1965 and the Ohio State University School of Law in 1968. Dan enjoyed a long and successful private law practice in Columbus, often partnering with other colleagues and hiring aspiring interns. Dan never truly retired from the practice of law, as he said the work kept him “relevant.” The latter part of his career Dan

partnered with the law firm

of Cooper and Elliott, where his tenacious spirit, good nature and legal skills will endure his passing. Dedicated to representing the underdog against the corporate defendant. Dan was respected and beloved by his clients and colleagues alike. Dan was a devoted father, husband, brother, uncle, and grandfather. He was the consummate sideline coach at grandchildren’s sporting events and coached his son John and daughter Miriam’s basketball teams for more than 10 years. Avid motorcyclist, member of MSTA, and Tail of the Dragon adventurer. At one time owning more than nine motorcycles (although Patty was only

aware of five). The thrill

of speed began with cars, and amateur racing at Powell Motor Speedway

(aka Murphy’s Party Barn).

Many incredible friendships came from this lifestyle, with visitors expounding of his experienced riding skills and attention to the road less traveled. Dan and his family spent summers on Lake Lauzon

in Ontario, Canada, fishing,

boating, moving rocks and creating a place for family and friends to gather. Dan had so many friends, and he truly cared about each one. Many friendships that spanned several decades, Robin Lorms and Michael Finn childhood friends for more than 60 years, so many friends and special people that we cannot list them all. Dan is survived by his wife, Mary Patricia

“Patty” Igoe (nee Conaway); three children, Kelly Igoe, John Igoe and Miriam Igoe

Rieser; son-in-law, Matthew Rieser; six grandchildren,

Rachel Affeldt, Lexi Igoe, Mac Igoe, Mitchel Igoe, Sophia Rieser and Samuel

Rieser; siblings, in-laws and

spouses, Mary Igoe Meyers, Maggi Igoe Corna, Michael and Cynthia Igoe, Cecilia Igoe Galbraith, Patricia L. Igoe, Sally Conaway Slattery, Virginia Conaway Senn, Charley Senn, Dr. E. Edwin Conaway, Jr. and

Cathy Conaway; 21 nieces

and nephews. Dan is preceded in death by his parents John D. Igoe and Mary V. Igoe, brother J. Kevin Igoe, brothers-in-law Richard Meyers, Jack Slattery, father and mother-in-law Dr. Earl E. Conaway and Miriam Conaway. Dan and Patty volunteered at Kobacker House for many years.

As a volunteer, Dan once washed all of the windows with the exact “right tools.”
