Dr. John “Jack” Stanko Jr., M.D, F.A.C.C., passed away peacefully at the age of 64 on Tuesday, August 24 surrounded by family. Born in Chicago, Illinois, Dr. Stanko graduated from Forrest View High School in 1975 and received his doctorate from The University of Loyola’s Stritch School of Medicine in 1985. In 1998, Dr. Stanko moved to the greater Columbus area, and until his death, he was a private practicing Cardiovasc­ular Interventi­onalist for over 30 years. Dr. Stanko’s passion was always medicine and making sure to be an advocate and friend to his patients in order for them to live long, happy lives. He loved dearly all his patients and working alongside his staff and nurses. In addition to his work, family was very important to Dr. Stanko and claimed he had the best family ever. On the few days when Dr. Stanko wasn’t working he loved reading and watching history documentar­ies, listening to his favorite music, cooking a mean prime rib, and spending time with friends and family. His legacy lives on with his wife of 41 years, Dawn; and his two daughters, Renee and Anjoli; his brothers, Scott Stanko and wife, Doreen, Phil Stanko and wife, Mel; his two sisters, Diana and Anita Stanko; and his nieces and nephew, Michaelene, Laurel, David, and Lauren. Dr. Stanko was preceded in death by his parents Josephine and John Stanko, and his siblings Madelaine and David Stanko. Memorial services to be announced by the family at a later date.
