Man struck, killed while walking

A man died Thursday after being being struck by a hit-skip vehicle while walking on a South Side sidewalk.

According to Columbus police, the incident occurred occurred around 11:30 a.m. and involved a black Chrysler 300 being driven southbound on South 4th Street near the Innis Avenue intersecti­on. Police said witnesses described the Chrysler as being driven recklessly.

The Chrysler crashed into a black Hyundai Sonata, driven by Terrance Farmer, that was headed east on Innis Avenue. The Chrysler then bounced off the Sonata and went onto the sidewalk, hitting 52-year-old Frank Paxton, of the South Side, a pedestrian walking on the sidewalk.

The Chrysler then hit a second vehicle, a silver Toyota Camry. Witnesses told police two men were then seen getting out of the Chrysler and fleeing the scene on foot.

Paxton was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The drivers of the other two vehicles involved were not injured.
