Man struck, killed while walking
A man died Thursday after being being struck by a hit-skip vehicle while walking on a South Side sidewalk.
According to Columbus police, the incident occurred occurred around 11:30 a.m. and involved a black Chrysler 300 being driven southbound on South 4th Street near the Innis Avenue intersection. Police said witnesses described the Chrysler as being driven recklessly.
The Chrysler crashed into a black Hyundai Sonata, driven by Terrance Farmer, that was headed east on Innis Avenue. The Chrysler then bounced off the Sonata and went onto the sidewalk, hitting 52-year-old Frank Paxton, of the South Side, a pedestrian walking on the sidewalk.
The Chrysler then hit a second vehicle, a silver Toyota Camry. Witnesses told police two men were then seen getting out of the Chrysler and fleeing the scene on foot.
Paxton was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The drivers of the other two vehicles involved were not injured.
