Richard Price, 89, of Manchester, NH, formerly of New London,
NH; Bexley, OH; and
Beverly, MA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August
3, 2021 at Riverwoods
Manchester (NH). He was married to his beloved wife
Jean Stapledon Price for 68 years; they met in 5th grade. After graduating from Hamilton College, hockey team, Dick served in the US Marine Corps in
Korea, Japan and the Far
East. After the service he got a job at the Columbus
Academy and relocated to
Bexley, Ohio. Dick was a beloved teacher for 38 years at the Columbus Academy, challenging his students in science and inspiring them in activities such as rocket club and quilting club, as well as coaching nearly every sport at the school, notably football, track and tennis. He was dean of the middle school and the school’s athletic director.
The Academy honored him by dedicating a new computer center to him; one year a graduating 8th grade class request that he personally present their diplomas to them. When not teaching he enjoyed playing tennis, squash, sailing, running, sewing, cooking and gardening. He also counted cross stitched, wove on a loom, played the saxophone and clarinet, and made intricate, hand-crafted jigsaw puzzles to the delight of friends and family. He did not sit still for very long! In addition to his wife, Jean, he is survived by his daughter, Leslie P.
