Home wins crucial for Crew’s playoff chances
In a 3-2 win against FC Cincinnati on Friday, Crew attacking midfielder Lucas Zelarayan hugged forward Miguel Berry after Berry’s second goal gave the Crew the lead in the 83rd minute, then immediately pointed to his head.
It was a reminder there was still time on the clock, and the Crew couldn’t afford another late lead squandered like the week before against the Seattle Sounders, especially at home.
For just the second time in six games since Lower.com Field opened July 3, the Crew celebrated a win in front of home fans.
To come back with two goals in the final 15 minutes should give any team confidence moving forward. Given the situation of chasing a playoff spot with 12 games remaining, the Crew know Friday’s result must become the norm in a stadium where coach Caleb Porter said, after the inaugural match, they would win a lot of games.
