Health care workers: Get vaccine
Many health care facilities in Ohio do not require their staff to be vaccinated.
What this means is that vulnerable groups like cancer patients with compromised immune systems, people who are unable to be vaccinated and newborn babies are put in danger every time they interact with medical staff. The risk they face is the direct result of medical facilities refusing to take all available precautions to keep patients safe.
The issue of rights and freedom often comes up in the discussion about vaccination. But we only seem to consider the rights of those who choose to be unvaccinated. They make that choice because of what they are afraid might happen to them. Instead, we must prioritize the rights of the vulnerable groups that unvaccinated health care workers are putting in danger.
My family does not have the right to know if their care provider is vaccinated, nor the freedom to access safe medical care. In Ohio, our choices are limited to avoiding care or risking our health to get it. Vaccine mandates for health care workers are a sensible precaution to keep Ohioans free, healthy and safe.
